A group of community members from the northern Dutch province of Friesland got together to contribute thousands of translations to Google Translate in September. The internet may be the most important tool to keeping this and other less-used languages alive.

The European Space Agency tested the limits of how far a person controlling a high-precision rover could be from the rover’s work site. The answer? 400 kilometers away, outside of the Earth’s atmosphere … could this be the beginning of better rovers that can help out in disaster zones, where humans can’t go?
