“Somebody caked the embargo”

So there was the news today that scientists detected gravitational waves for the first time. And then there was cake:

This was hands-down my favorite way of communicating the gravitation waves news out of all the ways that I’ve seen on the internet today. Everyone loves cake. More than drawing people’s attention, cake reels them in towards it, like a magnet.

Rachel Feltman at the Washington Post interviewed Erin Ryan, the NASA researcher who brought this cake into the office this morning. Feltman explained that Ryan broke this news embargo by 16 minutes when she tweeted the cake picture. And Ryan isn’t a first time cake-embargo offender. She broke another news embargo by cake-tweet in 2013.
